This page was last updated on 16 January 2010. DUE TO FLOODING AT THE CROSSINGS AND MORE SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED--DEDICATION DAY WAS POSTPONED TO TUESDAY 25 AUGUST 2009 and held that day! Here is the program--just click on each to enlarge it. This group of pictures was taken as finishing touches were being done at the site the morning of 21 Aug 09 in anticipation of Dedication that evening only the afternoon turned into severe weather and flooding at The Crossings so everything was postponed to Tuesday 25 Aug. Click on each to enlarge. Photos by Noonie Fortin-- COMPLETE! First visitors! Photos of Dedication Day held on 25 Aug 09 by Noonie Fortin-- Prelude included music by the Capitaland Chorus, LaSalle Institute Drill Team and Officer Patrick Germaine on bagpipes! Members of the Patriot Guard Riders and Rolling Thunder ride in and then walk from their bikes to the site and surround it with flags-- A flyover of helicopters had been arranged for-- Panning of the audience in attendance-- Speakers included our Founder Bob LaDuke, Supervisor Paula Mahan, POW-MIA ceremony, Michelle LaRock and former Supervisor Mary Brizzell-- Bob and Paula unveiled the Colonie Veterans Memorial--unfortunately I was taking video at the time and didn't get any photos of it so I'm hoping someone will provide a photo shortly. Wreaths were laid by several groups escorted by members of the memorial committee. As it should be the first group up was the Gold Star Mothers. Since I was in charge and part of the escorts I didn't get any other photos so again I'm hoping someone else will provide some-- A rifle salute was performed by Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Vets and Taps was played by Steven Stella as they all stood on the hill behind the memorial-- People were invited to visit the memorial up close and personal once the ceremony was over and as the sun was beginning to set the wall and flag lights came on--but the lights for the branch emblems were still not connected-- Since I was there early I didn't get to see the entrance to the park but after the ceremony Bob and I drove out to it to see the two fire trucks with ladders up and holding a garrison sized flag over the road--one of the trucks was the one I used to ride with Midway's Truck 7 while the other truck was from Shaker Road-- Many photos were taken and submitted to us but one of them really caught our eyes. Cindy DerGurahian sent us her Photosynth - Colonie NY Veterans Memorial Unveiling 08/25/09 album and we decided to share them with you. Use the buttons below to go to another page.
